Via Algarviana" A development Project for the Algarve's Countryside"

Portuguese Version | German Version

General Description

Via Algarviana is a foot path between Alcoutim and Cape Saint Vincent, 240Km long, mostly in the countryside area of the Algarve.   The main objective is to transform Via Algarviana into a Main Path (GR13) and at the same time, be part of the Trans-European Paths, connecting with E4 and E9.

The itinerary shall go across nine municipalities in the Algarve (Alcoutim, Castro Marim, Tavira, S. Brás de Alportel, Loulé, Silves, Monchique, Lagos and Vila do Bispo) and around 21 parishes.  In each parish, the via will be installed next to the most important natural and cultural places, as well as accommodation and restaurants, including Rural Tourism developments, traditional villages in the Algarve's countryside, etc.

Apart from its intrinsic importance, Via Algarviana will be the backbone of a walking path network in the Algarve that will complement it and that will create several alternatives in accordance with the choices and abilities of walkers.  This way, all the paths that somehow cross with Via Algarviana will be promoted and identified, as well as those that are connected to it.

The path shall be divided into stretches of 30Km which are going to be identified in an informative and interpreting file that will soon be available in our website.  The aim is to promote everything that is related to the existing cultural and natural heritage, the local accommodation, restaurants, support facilities, etc. Soon this information will be available here.
